BRAC mourns the loss of Dr Mahabub Hossain

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of our esteemed colleague and friend, Dr Mahabub Hossain. He was advisor to the executive director of BRAC, chairperson of BRAC University’s department of economics and social science and a globally recognised agricultural economist and researcher. Dr Mahabub passed away on January 3 2016 at 2am (Bangladesh time) at Cleveland Clinic in USA. He was 71 years old and leaves his wife, two daughters, a son and countless well-wishers and admirers.

Dr Mahabub over the course of time presided as former executive director to BRAC, head of International Rice Research Institute’s (IRRRI) social science department and director general of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS). He was serving as the newly appointed president of the Asian Society of Agricultural Economist. For decades he has been conducting research on innovation in agriculture and livelihood improvement of marginalised farmers.

On behalf of BRAC, we send our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones.
